New Modernism: The Fisher Collection at SFMOMA | In Person (Ryan Ranch) (Closed)
Course Description:In 2009, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) entered a partnership with the Fisher family to place 735 works by 100 artists from the Fisher Collection on long-term loan to the museum. "Reimagined: The Fisher Collection at 10" marks a transformation of the collection since its 2016 opening. Fully reconceived, the presentation features nearly 250 works by 35 artists. Spread across four floors, it emphasizes new approaches to modern and contemporary art and personal reflection. Themes we'll explore include "Memory and Matter" and "Thinking Big," featuring Anselm Kiefer, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter, Claes Oldenburg, and Coosje van Bruggen. We'll also examine monographic installations including Dan Flavin, Philip Guston, Joan Mitchell, Elizabeth Murray, Sigmar Polke, Richard Serra, and Cy Twombly. Together, the Fisher Collection and SFMOMA form a major repository of exquisite postwar and contemporary art. |
