Course Description:

"Bronx-not-Brooklyn"-born to Irish parents, acclaimed Dublin-raised actor Saoirse Ronan’s peripatetic life offscreen seems almost as complex and layered as her performances on-screen, from a precocious debut at the age of thirteen to the commanding lead roles she now assumes for the world’s top film directors. Adept at all genres, and as radiant in an Elizabethan court drama as in a coming-of-age comedy set in suburban Sacramento, Ronan’s extraordinary talent deservedly places her among the highest ranks of actors working today. Now on the cusp of thirty, she is the youngest actor to receive nominations for four Academy Awards, four Screen Actors’ Guild Awards and four Golden Globes—all accrued by the age of twenty-five. One to watch? Indeed, she is! In this course, we explore four films starring Saoirse Ronan and revel in her history of unforgettable performances on screen: "Brooklyn" (2015), "Lady Bird" (2017), "Mary Queen of Scots" (2018), and "Little Women" (2019). (Participants will view these films on their own prior to class.)
