Course Description:

Throughout history, infectious diseases have devastated countless cultures and institutions. Not surprisingly, artists have depicted the havoc that contagion wrecked upon their time and passionately portrayed its impact, including widespread mortality, physical maladies, institutional upheaval, and the leveling effect of disease on class structure. Dr. John Clark examines how art has played a vital role in our collective understanding of not only the history of contagion but of how its presence has forever altered ourselves and our societies.
