Richard Bell, Ph.D., is Professor of History at the University of Maryland. His research focuses on the history and culture of the United States between 1690 and 1877. He received his doctorate from Harvard University and has held major research fellowships at Yale, Cambridge and the Library of Congress. Presently an Andrew Carnegie Fellow, Dr. Bell is also a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a member of the Massachusetts Historical Society. The author of three books, his most recent is the widely acclaimed "Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home," published by Simon & Schuster.
