Course Description:In November, we will all have our say in the 2024 elections. As the backdrop for this election, we see a significantly polarized political climate; some would argue that we are more divided now than any period since the Civil War. Many consider this to be one of the most momentous elections in our lifetime, perhaps one of the most momentous in the life of the nation. Presidential and congressional elections are always consequential, but this election could dramatically affect the future of American policy and even American democracy. While media attention focuses on the presidential election, there are critical races for governor, the House of Representatives, and the Senate. In this course, we will meet once just prior to the election to assess the presidential polls, demographic trends, and the state of critical congressional and gubernatorial races. In the second session, we will discuss what we know about the outcomes and the future of American politics. |
