Course Description:Our exploration of some of the best crime fiction from around the globe takes us next to Nigeria. We will begin with "Lightseekers," the acclaimed debut by Femi Kayode, in which investigative psychologist Philip Taiwo searches for the truth about the brutal public torture and murder of three university students. "When Trouble Sleeps," by Leye Adenle, finds Amaka, self-appointed savior of Lagos’s sex workers, embroiled in a political scandal and caught in a game of survival. As we read and dissect these compelling mystery narratives in our lively online discussions, we will search for characteristics that make each uniquely Nigerian and also how the books fit into the expansive canvas of crime fiction. |
