Course Description:Mario Vargas Llosa, a Peruvian and a Nobel Prizewinning author, was at the heart of Latin American literature's explosive development in the 1960s that has come to be known as El Boom. His works reflect his ardent love of storytelling and explore both the politics of 20th-century Peru as well as the tribal lives of Amazonians. We'll read two of his novels, "The Time of the Hero" (1963) and "The Storyteller" (1987) to better understand South America through the lenses of Llosa's ever-changing, contradictory and evolving mind. |
