Course Description:Inscape can be defined as the unique inner nature of a person, object or event. It may also be a distinctive, essential and revelatory quality of a work of art. While a landscape draws our attention to the world around us, a musical inscape draws us into the worlds within. In this two-session course, we will listen to and reflect upon music composed for piano and voice with an emphasis on the inner experience of the listener, the performer and the composer. Musical selections include works by J.S. Bach, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Robert Moran, Johannes Brahms, Scott Joplin, Samuel Barber, Kurt Weill, and Rick Yramategui, who will lead this exploration, assisted by soprano Laura Schwingel. Both sessions will be held at Hidden Valley Music Seminars. |
