Course Description:Sufism is the mystical dimension of Islam. It is, at the same time, a universal spiritual path. In this course, we will first introduce the overall philosophy and practice of Sufism. Our aim is to show how Sufism is a lived experience through music and movement in different cultures around the world. We will discuss and demonstrate the different types of music and instruments used in Sufi cultures. At times, we will present Sufi poetry and music together. Participants will find out how Sufi music has been integrated into everyday life as a vehicle for healing, spiritual elevation, contemplation, and community building and will have a chance to experience it themselves. |
