Course Description:Poets have been writing about works of visual art since Classical times. In this two-session offering, we will embark on a close study of selected poems written about visual artwork. Together, we will explore the synergies between the two art forms and how visual art serves as the catalyst and inspiration for countless poems. Poems by twentieth and twenty-first century poets including Eavan Boland, Edward Hirsch, Lisel Mueller, and Kevin Young, and others will be read and discussed while looking at reproductions of the artworks that inspired them. |
