Course Description:

To many people, polarization is the defining characteristic of 21st-century politics in America, capturing headlines and shaping our political discourse. According to one large research study, the United States is one of the most polarized nations on earth. Are we in fact as polarized as some contend? Is the general public as polarized as politicians? Have we thoroughly sorted ourselves into “red” and “blue” states and communities? Is polarization in America unique to the 21st century? Join us as Professor Steve Hughes addresses these and related issues to better understand our current political dynamics and prospects for the future.
