Course Description:

You are invited into the timeless world of classical Persian poetry, where love, mysticism and existential wonder come alive through the words of Rumi, Hafez and Khayyam. Renowned across centuries and cultures, their verses bridge the human and the divine, the fleeting and the eternal. Through close readings, engaging discussions and cultural context, we’ll examine Rumi’s spiritual revelations, Hafez’s lyrical celebrations of life, and Khayyam’s reflections on the passage of time. We’ll also trace how these poetic traditions have shaped global thought and literature, from Edward FitzGerald’s iconic nineteeth-century translation to modern interpretations. Whether discovering Sufi poetry for the first time or rekindling your appreciation, this class offers a window into the wisdom and inspiration of poets whose words continue to resonate with seekers of truth and connectivity worldwide.
