Course Description:

Poets have been writing about works of art since Classical times. In this three-session offering, we will embark on a close study of selected poems written about visual artwork. Together, we will explore the relationship between the two art forms and how visual art serves as the catalyst and inspiration for innumerable poems. Poetry by twentieth and twenty-first century poets including Robert Hass, Lisel Mueller, Paul Muldoon, John Yau, and others will be read and discussed while looking at reproductions of the artworks that inspired them.
