Course Description:

By popular demand, we’ve added an afternoon session from 1:00–3:00 p.m. Same great tour, now with a new time to join us.

The Point Sur Naval Facility was one of only twenty-four Naval Facilities around the globe. It began operations in 1958 as a top-secret, defensive listening post during the Cold War. It is the only remaining, complete, standalone Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS) facility on the West Coast. SOSUS greatly assisted the U.S. in maintaining its dominance in antisubmarine warfare and was critical to American efforts to win the Cold War. The base was decommissioned in 1984, acquired by State Parks in 2000, and became part of Point Sur State Historic Park in 2004. This is a two-hour walking tour on level ground.
