Course Description:

Explore the rich heritage and significance of the Presidios of Monterey, historic military installations that played a vital role in shaping the local area. This illustrated talk will cover Native American culture, Spanish colonization, the Battle of Monterey, the Mexican-American War, the impact of American expansion of Monterey, Buffalo Soldiers, the cavalry era, World War II, and the arrival of the Army's language school.

Cameron Binkley is the command historian for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, where he has worked since 2007. He has held research positions at Stanford University and MIIS. He is a graduate of San Francisco State, MIIS, and the University of Denver.
