Course Description:In this course, we will explore Rumi as he truly was: a thirteenth-century mystic shaped by migration, loss, friendship, and a living Sufi lineage. We will read Ava Homa's fresh translations of his ecstatic "Ghazaliyat-e Shams" and the wisdom tales of the "Masnavi," tracing how their currents of longing, humility and awakening speak vividly to modern life. Select Sufi stories will deepen these themes and illuminate the tradition that nourished his art. Our time together will combine close reading with cultural context and reflective conversation, inviting participants to hear the original poems as they were meant to sound and to consider how these ancient teachings can steady and enrich contemporary life. |
