Course Description:Acknowledged as one of America’s greatest playwrights, Sam Shepard blazed a trail that has had a lasting impact on theatre arts. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for "Buried Child," Shepard authored "Fool For Love," "A Lie of the Mind" and "True West." Allston James, recent Runner-Up for the Kenneth Branagh New Drama Award, will explore Shepard’s influence on drama from his playwright’s perspective. The course includes viewing "True West" and scenes from other works. |

Allston James has taught at OLLI since 2012 and at Monterey Peninsula College for 30 years. His plays have been performed in New York, London, Glasgow and at festivals around the U.S. His drama "I Knew King When He Was Nobody" headlined the New Voices in Theatre Festival in August.
