Course Description:Join us for a film studies series, hosted by beloved cineaste Malcolm Weintraub and co-curated by director, producer and screenwriter Anthony Weintraub. Beginning in March, and continuing for the next 10 months, Malcolm will screen 10 films, one each from the decades spanning 1930-2020. He'll discuss the narrative and stylistic techniques and the creative approaches behind them, as well as the social, cultural and historical influences of the films and their contexts. His goal: to help us more fully understand how meaning is constructed, conveyed and interpreted in film. During our Saturday matinees, popcorn in hand, we'll view the following films this Spring: "Design for Living" (Lubitsch, 1933); "Out of the Past" (Tourneur, 1947); and, "Kiss Me Deadly" (Aldrich, 1955). |
