Stoppard and Shakespeare Are Alive! | In Person (Ryan Ranch)
Course Description:British playwright Tom Stoppard burst on the theatre scene in the sixties with "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," his madcap take on Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Stoppard went on to win three Olivier Awards for his plays, which include "Jumpers," "Travesties," "Arcadia," "The Coast of Utopia," and "Rock 'n' Roll." "The writer's ingenious virtuosity with language is a true high-wire act. He is always working without a net." When the producers of "Shakespeare in Love," the 1998 romantic comedy, encountered script problems, they called in Stoppard to revise the screenplay, which won an Oscar. In a unique "twofer," our exploration includes viewings of both "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" and "Shakespeare in Love." |
