Course Description:Ancient Egyptians developed a remarkably stable civilization and religion characterized by a complex panoply of gods. In about 1350 BCE, the Pharaoh Akhenaten tried to change all that—introducing the world's first monotheism. The sole god was the solar disk Re. In the process, a new style of art was created, expressive of human feeling and intimacy as never before. Join us for a fascinating look at Akhenaten's religious revolution, the remarkable changes it brought forth, and the astronomical events that may help explain this pivotal development in history. |
