Course Description:Come explore Don DeLillo's fictional take on the JFK assassination. We'll spend most of our time with the factual/fictional Lee Harvey Oswald. In addition, we'll revisit Jack Ruby, CIA operatives, the fear of Communism, and conspiracy theories. DeLillo's stunning and artful words take us into the particular fears of that very particular time. For those of us who remember the Kennedy motorcade and Jackie's pink Chanel suit, the Grassy Knoll, the Zapruder film, and the Warren Commission, "Libra" will enliven and deepen what we think we already know. Please join us for a close-reading of this finalist for the 1988 National Book Award, written by a master of American Literature. |
