Course Description:

Please note: Final session has moved to May 9

Author Hernan Diaz won both the Booker Prize (2022) and the Pulitzer Prize (2023) for his second novel, "Trust." His first novel, "In the Distance" (2017), was a finalist for the Pulitzer. Diaz is a brilliant and innovative storyteller of complicated stories with complicated narrative structures. "In the Distance" asks its readers to reconsider immigration and the American West, while "Trust" asks us to intertwine four different novellas (inside one novel) from four different, competing perspectives to determine what makes up "truth." In this course we’ll read both books and have ample discussion about their significance.
