Course Description:In the first two hundred years following the birth of Christianity, a single faith failed to emerge. There were many ideas about what Jesus' teachings meant and myriad interpretations of his death and resurrection. Was Jesus human or divine or some sort of combination? If he was resurrected from the dead, what did that mean for others? Between 200 and 500 C.E., there were wars of words, writings and actual battles between contending sides. But by 500 C.E., certain writings and specific beliefs came to be seen as Truth, while other writings were largely burned and the beliefs forgotten. Orthodox Christianity was established. Join us as we delve deep into this critical period and examine the areas of debate that ultimately led to the triumph of Christianity. |
