Course Description:

While discussing the current headwinds facing the U.S. economy, including federal budget deficits, economic inequality, the high cost of education, and the demographics of an aging society, Dr. Richard Kezirian will review how presidents and Congresses have met similar challenges in the past, using the Great Depression and prior recessions as examples. He will also review the coming wave of technological change led by AI and synthetic biology, in light of former economic "revolutions" and humanity's struggle to develop policies to ensure that the emerging technologies do far more good than harm. Our nation stands at a pivotal moment, facing profound challenges. Its future success depends on the wisdom we gain from the lessons of our past.
