Course Description:

The historic Western Flyer, made famous by John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts during their 1940 expedition to the Sea of Cortez, was restored to its former glory in 2023. Join us in celebrating this legendary vessel with a screening of two wonderful short films: "The Western Flyer" with Nick Offerman and "We Simply Liked It: Steinbeck, Ricketts, & the Return of the Western Flyer," filmed during the Flyer's 85th anniversary return to the Gulf of California. Following the screening, representatives from the Western Flyer Foundation will be on hand to field questions and illuminate the boat's multi-functional role as a floating classroom, a scientific research vessel, and a bridge between communities.
