[Past Event] Rise of an Illiberal America | Livestream Zoom

Course Description:

The United States of America has long stood as the foremost example of liberal democratic principles in action. However, in recent years those principles have been steadily eroded by mainstream and extremist entities determined to see an illiberal form of democracy. This timely talk will examine how the 2024 Presidential election plays a central role in determining whether the United States continues to uphold its egalitarian and pluralistic principles of liberalism, or whether it succumbs to its historic demons of inequality and racism in a modern context. To do so, we will focus on the various historical influences that have contributed to this inflection point, the key individuals and organizations seeking to exploit the political tension, and future goals of those actors in the context of an illiberal America.
