Course Description:

For over 30 years, Jafar Panahi has written and directed films that are playful, smart, and politically bold representations of Iranian culture. His outspoken stances against the authoritarian government have resulted in a ban on making films and his eventual imprisonment. Notwithstanding these restrictions, he has ingeniously and secretively continued to make films. We will view and discuss four films from among the following: "The Mirror," "The Circle," "Offside," "This Is Not a Film," "Tehran Taxi," "Three Faces," and "No Bears."
