Course Description:

In this fourth installment of the series, we continue our tribute to and inquiry into the unique African American contributions and influences to American music known as the blues. This semester, we will learn about and listen to blues music as it evolved in and emanated from different parts of the country. We’ll pay a quick revisit to the Mississippi Delta and to the Piedmont region of the Southeastern U.S. Next, we'll pay our due respects to Chicago blues (with side trips to Detroit, St. Louis and Kansas City). Our journey would be incomplete without stops in Louisiana and Texas. The final session will look at West Coast blues, including the blues of the Monterey Bay area, with some special guests joining us. This course is open to all, even those who weren’t able to attend earlier parts of this series.
