Course Description:Anna Akhmatova is regarded as the greatest female poet in Russian literature. her life was inundated with the tragedies of her century: arrests and executions of her loved ones, starvation, hardships, wars and revolutions, persecution, isolation, and betrayal. However, she persevered and emerged victorious through her poetry. Dr. Elena Sheygal-Placzek illuminates the crystal harmony of Akhmotova's poetic confessions and the dramatic fate of this more than beautiful woman, who became the voice of all Russia. |

Elena Sheygal-Placzek, Ph.D., is a retired professor of the Volgograd University, Russia. Author of the "English-Russian Dictionary of U.S. Life and Culture," she has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley as well as an OLLI lecturer there and at California State University, Monterey Bay.
