David Jacks [Suspended, We'll Keep You Posted] (Closed)

Course Description:

For more than 150 years, Monterey citizens have traded stories surrounding David Jacks and how he attained his riches. Did he steal from the poor and line his own pockets or was he a successful businessman who gave back to his city? The rumors and gossip have immortalized the name of David Jacks. But one must not forget his many contributions - the wharves built by Jacks, the Monterey and Salinas Valley Railroad, the origin of Pacific Grove, the land where the Del Monte Hotel was built and, not the least, Monterey Jack cheese. Researcher Mary Pendlay brings these contributions and more to light.
