Course Description:

Early artists were drawn to the Central Coast for the same reasons we value our home hereā€”the unkempt cypress trees, the restless meeting of sea and shore, the gentle fog coating the landscape in subdued colors. This session focuses on Lucia and Arthur Mathews as key figures in influencing the growing number of artists coming from far and wide to enrich Monterey's early artistic culture and its distinctive style. Their Arts and Crafts perspective left its mark on such early contemporaries as Xavier Martinez, Granville Redmond, Gottardo Piazzoni, and many others.
