Course Description:

In this course we will travel the world to learn about the Cypress genus—its botany, cultural symbolism, and importance in art and literature. We will start with the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea roughly 150 million years ago, continue through the birth and evolution of human civilization, and ultimately arrive back here on our coast, which is home to the last two native stands of the iconic Monterey Cypress.

Facilitator:

Cynthia Wagner Weick, Ph.D., is Professor Emerita, Management at University of the Pacific, where she authored over 30 publications. Weick has a lifelong interest in art, and co-authored a book on artists who painted in the Monterey Bay area in the late 19th through the mid-20th century.
