Meet Malcolm at the Movies | In-Person (Closed)

Course Description:

It's time we gather for an old-time movie experience, watching classic films together in a darkened space. Join us for a monthly film studies course, hosted by beloved cineaste Malcolm Weintraub and co-curated by director, producer and screenwriter Anthony Weintraub. Following each screening, we'll discuss the film's narrative and stylistic techniques and the creative approaches behind them, as well as the social, cultural and historical influences of the films and their contexts.

Films to include: "Brazil" (Gilliam, 1985); "Barton Fink" (Coen, 1991); "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (Lee, 2000); "Talk to Her" (Almodóvar, 2002); and, "Lady Bird" (Gerwig, 2017).

Location

Course will be presented live at CSUMB Ryan Ranch (8 Upper Ragsdale Road, Monterey) and will NOT be recorded or available for viewing later. To keep everyone safe, seats are limited.

Malcolm Weintraub, inveterate cineaste, is a devotee of film studies paying special attention to cinema thematics. This semester marks Malcolm's 23rd film studies course for OLLI.
