Course Description:We live in troubling times. The events and concerns of the day often arouse lingering feelings of anger, fear, disgust and sadness. These emotions can become major impediments to establishing and maintaining a calm mind. Neuroscience research has discovered brain areas and circuits that are activated by negative emotions. Recent studies show that these neural regions can be modified through practices such as mindfulness, cognitive reappraisal - and music. In our time together, we will examine how we can utilize these practices to develop the resilience to recover more quickly from negative events and cultivate a calm mind, a lasting sense of equanimity, even during turbulent times. |
