Course Description:

Virginia Woolf distinguished between those who read because they love learning and those who read because they love reading, the ones she referred to as “true readers.” This four-session offering will look at reading as a dangerous activity and as a lifesaving one. We’ll come up with our “Life Lists” — the twenty books that have meant the most to us, from childhood to the present. We’ll also read about reading, including excerpts from "Reading Lolita in Tehran," by Azar Nafisi, "The Library at Night," by Alberto Manguel, and the recent, "My Life with Bob," by Pamela Paul. Join us in celebrating and reflecting on the joy and solace that come only from reading.
