Course Description:

Indigenous tribes of the American Southwest have a vibrant history of ceramic art. From functional to sculptural, their unique style has evolved over thousands of years, resulting in the stunning work seen today. Beginning with an in-depth review of the simple techniques used to form and decorate the work, this lecture will introduce the different styles of numerous tribes, the diverse symbology used, and the cultural aspects that influenced the evolution of their pottery.

Facilitator:

Dana Goforth began working in clay at a young age, throwing her first teapot at 10. She graduated from San Francisco State with a creative arts degree specializing in sculpture. Her ceramic work has been exhibited internationally and she continues to explore new directions in three-dimensional art.
