Octopuses are undoubtedly remarkable creatures: they can solve puzzles, use tools and even mimic other species. They have three hearts and multiple brains with an intelligence rivaling that of famously smart animals such as crows and apes, and their visual communication abilities are mysterious and beguiling. Octopuses have been in our oceans for over 500 million years, ranging in size from miniature to Kraken-sized behemoths. They inhabit all parts of the ocean yet are very short-lived and generally solitary. Two local experts, Drs. Steven Webster and Roger Luckenbach, team up to examine these uniquely cerebral cephalopods.
