Joy of Taiko

Course Description:

Taiko drumming is an ancient Japanese art form with fresh, new interpretations in Japan and the United States. Explore the history of taiko and the development of modern taiko drumming. Discover differences in style and purpose as we view different drumming groups. Appreciating taiko is enhanced by personal drumming experience, so we will introduce some easy drumming patterns and techniques. Please be prepared to do some mild physical activity.

Facilitator:

Denise Hasegawa has been a taiko student and enthusiast for 20 years and is a member of the Monterey-based taiko group Shinsho Mugen Daiko.

Lesley Hasegawa has been a taiko student and enthusiast since the age of 12. She is a member of Shinsho Mugen Daiko and a founding former member of TaiKomotion at UC Irvine.
