Course Description:

The cantatas of J. S. Bach remain central to his output as some of the greatest works from the Late Baroque, but remain less known than his Passion settings and his Mass in B Minor. In this course, Bach’s cantatas will be presented roughly in order of composition, guided by listening examples and an illuminating examination of scores to reveal musical gems in vocal, choral and instrumental writing.

A Note from Dr. Todd Samra:
This course is designed for everyone, regardless of knowing how to read music or having taken music theory. Score examples will be used for some of the cantatas, but the visual aid is to highlight what is heard, or for me to point out a relationship (such as symmetry). A love of music will be more than enough to appreciate and understand the contents of this course.

Tuition: $40.00

Additional Fees: $0.00
