Course Description:

An American invention that spread rapidly from New York and Chicago, the skyscraper was a turn-of-the-century technological marvel that radically altered city skylines across the country. California boasts several elegant examples now a century old; more can be found in Western cities from Seattle to Denver to Phoenix. Award-winning author and journalist Mark Houser takes you on a virtual tour of the most impressive structures still standing today, sharing images of their extravagant architecture and dazzling lobbies along with fascinating details of the capitalists and speculators who commissioned these towering cathedrals of commerce.
