Course Description:

What is this written expression that can appear as a long skinny thing down the page in one case and appear as a chunky paragraph in another? How does a poet leap from one subject to another, and why? If you’ve found poetry to be both curious and befuddling, here’s your chance not only to make peace with the form but to write your own poems. Author Patrice Vecchione will welcome you into poetry’s mysteries and demystify the form (at least a little). We’ll discuss the mind of the poet, how to listen deeply, what writing poems can do for us, rules for writing them, the internal critic, and the poet within. Each session will include a guided writing experience. (Patrice’s newest book will be the text for this class.)
