Course Description:

Fashion designer, costume historian and author, Nan Turner, explores the past 100 years of fashion. The first session will present an overall history, illuminating the leading fashion designers of each decade and the events that drove monumental changes in fashion across the years. Attention will also be given to advances in textiles, production and the role of women in society. The second session will focus on the history of costumes in film, including a look at the top-20 most iconic costumes seen on the silver screen. You'll learn how to determine the film era by analyzing historically correct costumes, as well as costumes that are more representative of the fashions of the year the film was made. Interviews with top costume designers and film clips will enliven the presentation.
