Course Description:

In his groundbreaking book, "The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World," Dr. Iain McGilchrist describes how the left and right sides of our brain give us two different views of our world: one narrow, the other broad. Civilizations fourish when both views are in balance; but, in our modern times, the dominance of the analytical view has diminished our ability to appreciate the role of the arts and humanities in providing a more enlightened experience. Continuation along this path will have disastrous consequences. In this salon, we will review the ideas presented in McGilchrist's book and discuss how we can restore the balance between the left and right sides of our brain to enrich our existence within this highly technical world.
