Course Description:

Long regarded as the most serious and ambitious work for keyboard, J.S. Bach’s "Goldberg Variations" display the composer’s exceptional knowledge of the many different styles of music of his day, and his own exquisite performing technique. In this revealing lecture/recital, professional classical pianist, Melinda Coffey Armstead, leads us on this exploration of Bach’s only set of keyboard variations—a work that exceeded Baroque norms of composition, style and keyboard practice with panache, playfulness and profundity.
