Course Description:

This fascinating, richly illustrated lecture series will explore the major artistic trends that occurred during photography's most tumultuous and controversial period of the 20th century. We'll take a fast-paced stroll through several diverse trends, from the cold Postmodernism of Cindy Sherman to the warm family photographs, examining how they use the medium to express their creativity with subjects as varied as landscape, still lifes and portraiture.

We'll meet online via Zoom. Zoom is free and easy to use. OLLI will walk you through the steps. Prior to each Zoom meeting (class), you will receive an email with specific details on that meeting.

Facilitator:

Brian Taylor, known for his lively lectures, received an M.A. from Stanford University. He studied with Beaumont Newhall and Van Deren Coke while earning his MFA from the University of New Mexico. Brian is a professor emeritus at San Jose State University where he taught photography for over 35 years and also served as the Chair of the Department of Art and Art History. He recently retired as Executive Director for the Center for Photographic Art.
