Course Description:Eighty-three years after the "Western Flyer" sailed out of Monterey Bay, the restored boat will make its return to our shores in 2023. That’s reason to celebrate. That’s also reason to reconsider John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts' seminal book, "Sea of Cortez". And that’s reason enough to go into the intertidal and look for ourselves at the watery worlds that these two men explored. Join us as we read "The Log from the Sea of Cortez"; hear from scientists who work in Baja and carry on research in the spirit of Steinbeck and Ricketts; and, explore the intertidal on an optional field trip to Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove. Participants will need to acquire "The Log from the Sea of Cortez" for this offering. |
