Course Description:

At the turn of the 20th century, Russian culture experienced a dynamic period of experimentation with varying art forms and key discoveries in visual, literary and performing arts. This Silver Age made a tremendous contribution to modernism and produced a galaxy of brilliant artistic talents. Russian scholar Elena Sheygal-Placzek examines this storied period, including the poetry and art of symbolism and futurism, the emergence of Russian avant-garde painting the music of Stravinsky and Scriabin, and the groundbreaking Ballets Russes.

Facilitator:

Elena Sheygal-Placzek, Ph.D., is a retired professor of the Volgograd University, Russia. Author of the "English-Russian Dictionary or U.S. Life and Culture," she has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley as well as an OLLI lecturer there and at CSUMB.
