Course Description:

Naturalist Melinda Nakagawa takes you outdoors for an experience that will stimulate your sense of wonder while creating a deeper connection between yourself and the natural world. You’ll learn practical tips on how to find and view birds, as well as receive an introduction to bird language in a friendly, relaxed and inclusive course. The offering includes a single indoor lecture at Ryan Ranch, followed by three nature walks. Outdoors, participants will be divided into two groups to ensure small group sizes.

Tuesdays, Mar. 1 introductory course will be presented live at CSUMB Ryan Ranch (8 Upper Ragsdale Road, Monterey) and will NOT be recorded or available for viewing later. Remaining three sessions will meet on location. Map and information to be provided.


Melinda Nakagawa is an accomplished naturalist, scientist, educator, and artist. Over the past 20 years, she has worked as a marine naturalist, researched seabirds and leatherback turtles, led bird walks, and inspired creativity through nature-based art classes.
