Course Description:

Salinas is home to a group of railroad enthusiasts who have painstakingly researched and created an elaborate model railroad that tells the story of how trains were instrumental in transforming Monterey County into what it is today, and shows how the Salinas Valley became the salad bowl of the world. In addition, a collection of restored cars—a caboose, a refrigerated car, a mail car, among others—sit on tracks adjacent to the museum and tell their own story. Museum volunteers will take us on a journey into the past, when everything traveled by rail.
