Course Description:"Courageous Conversations About Our Schools" is a renowned podcast in which host Dr. Ken Futernick conducts civil conversations with parents, educators and students covering the most contentious issues facing today's schools. In our opening session, Dr. Futernick will describe the process of hosting civil conversations with participants from opposing viewpoints, as well as what he has learned from the process. During our second meeting, Dr. Peter Coleman, Professor of Psychology and Education at Columbia University and acclaimed expert in constructive conflict resolution, will share valuable insights about the sharp rise of polarization in America and the divisive culture wars that plague our schools. Our final session will feature representatives from a California school district where they are holding Courageous Conversations with the help of Dr. Futernick. Dr. Futernick will be working with our host, Dr. Chris Hasegawa, and the Spreckels Union School District to bring these conversations to Monterey County. |
